Faucet & Toilet Repair
Stop the Drip, the Run and the Wobble
Toilet Problems We Fix
The toilet keeps running
A toilet that hisses, refills on its own or runs after you flush usually has a worn flapper or a fill valve that no longer shuts off. Left alone, a running toilet can waste hundreds of gallons of water a day, and you often won't see it, which is why it shows up as a surprise on the water bill.
Weak or incomplete flush
Mineral buildup can clog the small jets under the rim, and a tank that isn't filling to the right level can leave the bowl short of power. A partial clog further down the line can mimic the same problem.
Rocking, wobbling or leaking at the base
If the toilet moves when you sit, or water seeps out around the base, the wax ring or the closet bolts are the likely culprits. This is worth fixing quickly: a slow leak at the floor can soften the subfloor over time.
Constant refilling, clogs and sweating tanks
These usually trace back to the fill valve, the flapper or the supply line, and each has a different fix.
Faucet Problems We Fix
- A steady drip. Usually a worn cartridge, O-ring or seat, depending on the faucet style.
- Weak flow. Mineral deposits from hard water often clog the aerator and the small passages behind it. Hard water is common along the Wasatch Front, and our hard water guide explains what it does to plumbing.
- Leaks at the handle or base. Internal seals wear out, and it's better to replace them than keep tightening.
- Water under the sink. The cause might be the faucet, the supply lines or the drain below it. We trace where it's actually coming from instead of guessing.
- Hot and cold mixing wrong. A failed cartridge or a plumbing cross-connection can be the cause.
Repair or Replace the Fixture?
For most toilet problems, the working parts are inexpensive to replace and the toilet itself is fine. Replace the fixture when the porcelain is cracked, it clogs constantly, or you want a more efficient model. For faucets, a repair makes sense for a basic cartridge or seal. If the finish is worn, parts are hard to find or the faucet is already past its best years, a new one may be the better use of your money. We can install a faucet or toilet you've bought, or help you choose one that fits your sink or bathroom.
A Quick Test for a Silent Toilet Leak
Add a few drops of food coloring to the tank, don't flush, and wait about 15 minutes. If color shows up in the bowl, the flapper is leaking and the toilet is running water even when you can't hear it.
Pricing
Plumbing visits start with a $29 dispatch fee applied toward any repair you approve, followed by a written quote before work starts. No hourly billing. See our pricing page. If a faucet leak turns out to involve the pipes behind the wall, our leak repair and repiping pages cover the larger jobs, and if a kitchen sink is involved we can also look at the garbage disposal while we're there.
Faucet & Toilet Questions, Answered
Why does my toilet keep running?
Usually the flapper at the bottom of the tank isn't sealing, or the fill valve isn't shutting off. Both are inexpensive parts. A new flapper or fill valve typically stops it.
How can I tell if my toilet is leaking when I'm not using it?
Put a few drops of food coloring in the tank without flushing and wait about 15 minutes. If the color shows up in the bowl, the flapper is leaking.
Why is the water pressure at my faucet low?
If only one faucet is weak, the aerator is often clogged with mineral buildup. If every fixture is weak, the issue is elsewhere in the system, such as a pressure regulator or a main line problem.
Is it worth repairing an old faucet?
A drip from a worn cartridge or seal is usually worth fixing. If parts are hard to find or the faucet is badly worn, replacement is often the better value.
Can you install a toilet or faucet I bought myself?
Yes. We'll confirm it fits your plumbing, install it and test it for leaks.
How much does it cost to fix a faucet or toilet?
The visit starts with a $29 dispatch fee, applied toward any repair you approve. We give you a written quote before any work begins, and we don't bill by the hour.
