Plumbing in Salt Lake City's Older Homes
Plumbing problems here tend to follow a few well-known patterns. Homes built before the 1960s, including many in the Avenues, Sugar House and central Salt Lake, can still have galvanized steel supply lines. Those pipes corrode from the inside, which narrows the opening, drops your water pressure and eventually leaks. Older drain lines made of cast iron or clay are open to root intrusion and cracking. And across the whole valley, hard water leaves mineral scale in water heaters, faucets and pipes. A good plumber looks at the whole system, not only the fixture that's leaking.

Why is my water pressure low?
Common causes are a partially closed or failing shutoff valve, mineral buildup in fixtures, a failing pressure regulator, or corroded supply pipes, especially in older homes with galvanized lines. A single fixture with low flow is usually a clogged aerator or cartridge. Low pressure throughout the house points to a bigger issue worth a look.
Why does the same drain keep clogging?
